Jyväskylä-St. Petersburg Center for Applied Mathematics is based on long term experience of successful cooperation V.A. Steklov Institute of Mathematics in St. Petersburg (POMI) and University of Jyväskylä.

Finnish part of the Center is initiated by the Department of Mathematics and Statistics of the Faculty of Mathematics and Science and by the Department of Mathematical Information Technology of the Faculty of Information Technology. Russian part of the Center is located at the Euler International Mathematical Institute (EIMI) at St. Petersburg.
The Center is an open, non-profitable, scientific organization intended to stimulate theoretical research in applied mathematics, study of fundamental problems arising in natural sciences and modern technology, and promote joint educational programs in mathematics and scientific computing. Scientific and educational activity of the Center is supervised by Scientific Committee. Members of Scientific Committe are selected among eminent scientists and appointed by joint invitation of Steklov Institute and University of Jyväskylä.
